Emily Renee Cheney
Emily Renee Cheney ventured into the classical music scene at age eighteen when, on a whim, she auditioned for a music scholarship at Utah Valley University and was invited to join the music program. With twelve years of piano lessons, at least a million hours singing along with Taylor Swift, and extensive ballet and performing training to give her a jumpstart, Emily quickly developed a vibrant classical voice while studying at UVU and privately with Serena Kanig Benish.
Now, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance, Emily is noted for her elegant and charming stage presence, lush middle voice, and lively upper range. Emily is described as a dedicated musician who is constantly improving with a versatile voice that can sing classical, musical theater and contemporary styles. Favorite opera roles include: chorus and Stella in Tales of Hoffmann, Belinda in Dido and Aeneas, and a nun in Sundance’s production of The Sound of Music. A longtime soprano in UVU’s Chamber Choir, Emily performed under the direction of Dr. Reed Criddle at the National ACDA Conference in 2023.
Emily also takes pride in her life coach certification from The Life Coach School. Her expertise on human behavior deeply contributes to her teaching style. She is capable of helping students overcome perfectionistic thinking and stage fright, so they can have more fun, get better roles in their school and community productions, and learn to apply this skill to other areas of life.
Emily looks forward to sharing her voice with many people over the course of her life and is excited for more professional opportunities to come!
